Last week, I set to work on a series about Bunker Hill in the movies, specifically, when the Hill lends its eerily empty self to depictions of post-apocalyptic terrors. I tackled 1954’s Target Earth in this post.
Today, I continue my work, examining the not-abandoned-but-definitely-empty downtown Los Angeles of late 1970, shot by Warner Brothers for The Omega Man.
In doing so, I cover not just nailing down the odd location, but muse on the Hill’s new old streetlights, and how to shoot during a pandemic, and why we should love LA’s rare remaining postwar hotdog stands.
