Hitched at the Courthouse, August 1968
...help solve the mystery of the bronze lanterns!
Look at these two!
Ain’t they adorable, on Hill Street with a novelty sign before their Courthouse wedding? (The Courthouse being, of course, featured on p. 65 of Bunker Hill, Los Angeles and p. 17 of Marsak’s Guide.)
I have no idea who they are, but I love them, in part because they remind me so much of my aunt & uncle.
All of which I talk about in this post —
https://bunkerhilllosangeles.com/2025/08/31/getting-hitched-at-the-courthouse-1968/
— but mostly, I want to know, WHO DESIGNED THESE? The Courthouse’s four magnificent uplit bronze lanterns with uber-1950s depictions of the history of justice?
Thank you very much for any and all information you may have regarding these magnificent beasts.

Well, they don't come up as owned by the County. There's no listing for this artwork. They are a tribute to the egyptian goddess Ma'at. The only mention of them I could find is in this article about the courthouse. https://www.advocatemagazine.com/images/issues/2022/06-june/reprints/Alarcon-Jun22-article.pdf The author, Judge Alarcon, loves the building and is trying to establish a museum. Maybe you can track down his email and ask him.
